Green Luxury Homebuilders
Smart Homeowner writes about the growing trend of environmentally-conscious luxury homebuilding. Homeowners with money to spend on custom homes with high-end features are adding energy efficiency and sustainable materials to their list of must-haves. Robert Lord, master builder and president of Robert Lord Builders in St. Charles, Illinois, says that it makes sense that high-end home buyers are willing to pay extra for such features, but it is a sense of social responsibility that motivates builders like himself. “Builders will change the industry, and I want to make a change that’s right,” says Lord.
These luxury homes are making use of a wide array of environmentally-friendly features, including: geothermal induction for heating and cooling, solar panels to recharge electric vehicles in the garage, Energy Star appliances, compact fluorescent light bulbs, reclaimed and recycled building materials, and electricity purchased from wind farms.
